Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) image shows a typical group of smaller particles. Average diameter is 4 - 5 nanometers. Most particles are between 2 - 8 nanometers. Images of lattice fringes are produced by interaction between the crystalline structure and the TEM. link to home link to index of topics link to glossary

tem of ultradiamond particles, large image

Straight lines within particles are images produced by interaction between the crystalline structure and electrons from the Transmission Electron Microscope. These lines, called lattice fringes, are not features on the surface of the particles.
(Contrast of image enhanced digitally, for easier viewing of particles.)
